TTMRA Registration Application Form for Registration as a Psychologist in New Zealand  (77Kb)

This form is for psychologists registered and able to practise in a state or territory of Australia (except Western Australia) applying for registration by the New Zealand Psychologists Board under the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Act (TTMRA) 1997.  The Registrar will undertake required checks with the relevant Australian authority.  Once registration has been granted , the psychologist must apply for an Annual Practising Certificate if he or she intends to practise. [see Practising Certificate Application form below]

If the Registrar finds no reasonable grounds to refer the application to the Board, an APC will be issued.  TTMRA registered psychologists have a 'general scope of practice.  They may apply to seek a change to this scope using the Vocational Scope of Practice application form.

If the Registrar identifies reasonable grounds under section 27(1) of the Act, the application will be referred to the Board and conditions on an APC or interim practising certificate may be issued.

Practising Certificate 2008-2009 Application Form (75 Kb)

This form is to be used by psychologists who are registered for the purpose of applying for a practising certificate to enable them to practise and maintain a current and legal registration status. Applications must be sent to the Board's Registrar on this form and with payment. A statutory declaration is required which must be signed and witnessed.

The Board will not issue a certificate unless it is satisfied that the applicant meets the required standard of competence. Competence is not an issue for psychologists who apply for an APC shortly after they have been registered.  Under section 30(3) of the HPCA Act 2003, the practitioner is to be regarded as holding an APC from the date when the Board received the application until the date the APC is issued, or the practitioner is notified that it will be declined.  This means if you haven't received your APC, but you have completed the correct form, sent it into the Board with your payment, and it has been received by the Board and the APC fee deducted from your account, you are deemed to hold that APC.

This form is to be used by psychologists who are registered for the purpose of applying for a vocational scope(s) of practice - "Clinical Psychologist" and/or "Educational Psychologist".  It allows for self-nomination rather than Board decree.  However, the Board urges all psychologists to carefully consider the implications of holding a vocational scope of practice before making application.  Psychologists in New Zealand are bound by their Code of Ethics to practice only in those areas in which they are demonstrably competent, and to maintain competence in their area(s) of practice.  Your vocational scope of practice will be endorsed on your Certificate of Registration which can be purchased for NZ$75.00.  To purchase your  Certificate of Registration [click here].

The minimum qualification criteria for the vocational scopes of practice is a Masters degree in Psychology and an appropriate Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent qualification.  Work experience may be taken into consideration.

A statutory declaration is required for this application.  Statutory Declarations made in New Zealand must be made before a person entitled under the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957 to take statutory declarations, e.g. Justice of the Peace, solicitor, notary public, Registrar or Deputy Registrar of the High Court or any District Court, authorised officer in the service of the Crown, or any member of Parliament.
